Beaches
Of course most visitors come to Plakias because of the wonderful beaches in the surrounding.
The village beach is a very long sandy beach. Walk a bit further and you will find beautiful natural beaches with cliffs to jump down from and the water is mostly crystal clear in the south of crete.
The famous palm beach of Preveli is close and a variety of watersport activities like surfing and diving is available.
If you are looking for lonely hidden bays, ask in the hostel. We know where to find them.
Hikes
The hostel is the perfect spot to start hiking into the mountains and two beautiful gorges. We have instructions ready for you to find trails, viewpoints, waterfalls and secret places
The Riverwalk
Hike deep on the bottom of a gorge in a river to find the "Magic Bridge" - an adventure trip especially for a hot or windy day.
The Kirilimianou
The mountain next to the hostel has an altitude of 815m. Within four hours you can get to its top with a magnifiant view.
Timeo Stavros
An easy to hike mountain. It takes you about 3 hours from Plakias to visit the chapel on top of it. The way leads you along the coast and you will find several swimming opportunities.
Sfakian Gorges
With a car (several rentals are in Plakias) you can easily visit the Gorges like Imbros or Aradena-Gorge. Organised daytrips to the famous Samaria gorge are offered from Plakias travel agencies too.
Even closer there are some beautiful inland gorges, that are undiscovered by tourism. The Hostel Crew can assist you to find them or give you a contact to a local tourguide.
Eat, Drink and Nightlife
Just five minutes away from the hostel a big number of tavernas, bars, dancefloors, beach- and poolbars guarantee you a good nightlife.
The village just above Plakias has got some of the best tavernas on crete. The view from the Plateia in Mirthios in the sunset is amazing.
In Plakias and expecially in the mountain villages close by there are some old traditional tavernas where you can still find the "true crete". Did you know that the traditional cretan kitchen is offering a huge variety of food for vegetarians?
Culture & History
When visiting the Palm Beach of Preveli don´t miss to visit the Preveli monastery too.
On the way you will also pass the venetian bridge of Preveli and the old monastery.
Rent a car for a day and visit the archaeological sites of Gortys and Phaistos with a stopover in former Hippie place Matala.
Geocaching
Crete is a paradise for Geocachers. There are geocaches hidden at the most beautiful spots on the island. About 10 of them you can find just by walking from the hostel. And for one of them you do not even have to leave the hostel :)
